What you need to know as a manufacturer or importer?

The principle of Extended Producer Responsibility makes it the responsibility of producers to recycle the waste from the electrical equipment they place on the market in order to meet the targets set by legislation.

Who does it apply to?

The Extended Producer Responsibility Principle applies to manufacturers, producers, distributors and importers placing products or packaging on the market for the first time:

Manufacturers

Companies established in Portugal that manufacture or have designed or manufactured products under their own name or brand and sell them in Portugal.

Traders

Companies established in Portugal that resell, lease or otherwise make available the product on the market in Portugal under its own name or brand.

Distributors

Companies that sell, rent or otherwise make products available on the market, by means of distance communication techniques, directly to private users or non-private users in Portugal and is established in another Member State of the European Union or in a third country.

Importers

Companies that import products from a third country or from another Member State of the European Union.

Temperature control equipment

Refrigerators, Freezers, Refrigerated vending machines, Air conditioning equipment, Dehumidifying equipment, Heat pumps, Oil heaters, Other temperature control equipment using fluids other than water for this purpose

Screens, monitors and equipment

Screens, Television sets, Photo frames, LCD, Monitors, Laptops, Notebooks

Large equipment

Washing machines, Clothes dryers, Dishwashers, Stoves, Electric ovens, Electric hobs, Light fittings, Equipment for reproducing sounds or images, Musical equipment (excluding organ pipes installed in churches), Equipment used in knitting and weaving, Macrocomputers (mainframes), Large printers, Large copiers, Large slot machines, Large medical devices, Large monitoring and control instruments, Large automatic dispensers for goods and money, Photovoltaic panels

Small equipment

Vacuum cleaners, Carpet cleaners, Sewing appliances, Light fittings, Microwave ovens, Ventilation equipment, Irons, Toasters, Electric knives, Electric coffee makers, Watches and Clocks, Electric shavers, Scales, Hair clippers and other body care appliances, Pocket calculators, Radio sets, Video cameras, Video recorders, Hi-fi equipment, Musical instruments, Equipment for reproducing sounds or images, Electric and electronic toys, Sports equipment, Computers for cycling, diving, running, rowing and other sports, Smoke detectors, Heating regulators, Thermostats

Join an integrated waste management system

Hire our environmental management services for used electrical equipment and transfer your responsibilities to Electrão.

Register with the Portuguese Environment Agency (APA)

From the Portuguese Environment Agency you can access SILiAmb (Integrated Environmental Licensing System), a platform created to make the contact between citizens and APA services more efficient and faster.

Report the quantities of products placed on the market

Annually, you have to declare these quantities to the APA, through SILiAmb., and periodically you have to fill in the declaration maps for electrical equipment on the Electrão Members' Portal.
