International E-Waste Day was created by the WEEE Forum in 2018. This initiative, celebrated on the 14th of October, involves 78 countries and 172 organisations.

The aim of the event is to raise public awareness of the dangers of electrical waste and the need to recycle and treat it properly, as it is one of the most dangerous and fastest growing waste streams in the world.

How did Electrão mark this event?

2021

In 2021, in addition to a digital awareness campaign using data provided by the WEEE Forum and participation in a vox pop in the street, Electrão published data from the WEEE-follow project, which concluded that 3 out of every 4 pieces of equipment sent for recycling are diverted to the parallel market.

In addition to these actions, Electrão organised an art installation with 216 used electrical equipment in the garden of Quinta dos Ingleses, opposite Carcavelos beach. The art installation, in the shape of the SOS acronym, raised awareness of the need to separate and recycle electrical equipment.
