Electrão promotes the campaign “Todos pelo IPO – Reciclar faz bem à saúde e ao ambiente”, in which it collects used batteries and electrical equipment to support the Instituto Português de Oncologia de Lisboa Francisco Gentil (IPO Lisboa) in its mission to provide health care. The campaign is based on the participation of companies and raising awareness among the population to deliver waste to Electrão Network Sites.

In 2022, during the first edition of the campaign, 156 tons of used batteries, accumulators and electrical equipment were collected with the collaboration of 265 companies that promoted several actions within the scope of their social and environmental responsibility policies.

In the second edition, in 2023, the campaign had the well-known television host Fernando Mendes as its ambassador and recorded an exponential increase in waste collection results.

“This campaign is very important because, in addition to the obvious benefits for public health and the environment, by correctly forwarding these materials for recycling, it also helps IPO Lisboa in its mission: to improve the quality of assistance activities, through this donation which we will use to acquire a computerised digital dermoscopy system, essential for diagnosing skin cancer”.

Eva Falcão, President of the Board of Directors of IPO Lisboa

The medical device allows high-resolution photography of pigmented skin lesions using a photographic lens and dermatoscope, organized and archived on a computer. Combined with artificial intelligence techniques and the physician's experience, it is an important tool for early diagnosis, also increasing the healing potential.
